Valentin Aigner: pop-up exhibition “At the Viennese’s Place”, Kamov Residency

Zagrebačka 21, 3rd floor

Austrian artist Valentin Aigner has come to Rijeka for a two-month artist residency. Aigner will present his work to the public through a pop-up exhibition in the apartment at Zagrebačka 21, where he is currently living and creating. The exhibition will unfold in an informal atmosphere, and the visitors will have the opportunity to meet and hang out with the artist.

Valentin Aigner (b. 1985 in Schladming, Austria) is staying in Rijeka as a guest of the Kamov Residency Programme, with support of the Department of Culture of the Styria Region. Aigner studied at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts, and developed an art practice that is characterized by a diversity of methods and materials. Decay and transience are recurring motifs in his work, explored in the charged space between the pristine and the discarded, between archaic symbols and pop-cultural clichés: simultaneities. His pieces hover between prop and stage elements, intervene in existing spaces, may be fetish or found objects, marginal notes or fully articulated paintings – or perhaps simply objects of a broken genre, lingering between definitions.
